The Isaac Walton Lodge sat right in front of my bus stop and I remember a pay phone out front that we used to use every morning to call the operator to ask the time. And there was a large stump where we'd play King of the Mountain every morning. I don't remember ever going inside but I knew the outside of that building and the land very well.

I remember this Coast Guard station when it was first brought to Yankeetown. One soul lived there for six months with no electricity, only plumbing and alot of candles.

Added by Richard Post,

That would be Kim Turnidge of Utah, Richard. He left shortly after trashing his bike and hurting his back. The houseboat was initially moored upriver against the south bank for a spell.

I remember the way the Coast Guard took care of Yankeetown Boat,CO. My parents could always count on them in times of crisis such as when we had the major fire at the marina in the 80's and when we had another boat fire. Without them I don't know what we would have done. Thanks guys you are the best.

Hello The site was a good reflection of my first memories i moved to yankeetown when i was 3 and left when i was 5 but I have always wanted to go back but havent got the chance yet. Alot of my family lived there, my grandfather James Sparks, my uncles James Sparks Jr and Leo Sparks which most people knew as Joe or crazy coohunter and my father is Marvin. I remeber swimmming at the end of the road and going out on the boats with my dad and I still remeber Kelly Reynolds and Jack Nickolson. I do plan to get back there soon. I will be trying to find pictures from when i was down there if i do i will post them as soon as i can. thank you Joe Sparks

The Inglis Bypass Spillway brings the only flow of water into the lower Withlacoochee River meandering through Inglis and Yankeetown. This structure was built to provide the lower Withlacoochee River with water when the US Army Corps of Engineers dissected our river to build the Cross State Florida Barge Canal. Amazes me that they took a pristeen beautiful crystal clear fast flowing fish filled river, cut it in half, killed it, and then it is designated an "OUTSTANDING FLORIDA WATERWAY."

Added by Sally Price,
2 January 2003 at 0130

This picture brings me so many memories good and bad all flooding back at the same time just like the water flowing over the dam. I used to live in "Dan's mobile home park" just off to the side of the spillway. I remember going there with my best friend Mary and laying out in the sun or to drink with boyfriends. But mostly I would go there to reflect on my life and when I would get out of this little one horse town. Now at the age of 33 and living in Seattle,WA. I long for the simpler times like I spent soaking up the sun and reflecting by the spillway

Added by Elizabeth Regalado,
5 July 2005 at 1257

Well said Betsy! I also remember sneaking out to go and sit at the spillway talking about a little bit of everything and a lot of nothing...just soaking up life under the stars...oh how simple life was then!!! I also recall fishing barefoot for gar with bread balls and how incredibly aggressive they could be, (and how silly we were for doing it!) What would we have done had we ever caught one!?! If nothing else Betsy...we'll always have these fond memories of our impressionable teenage years--- memories that we were blessed to share together and will carry with us forever. You are the dearest friend I have ever had and I love you for so many reasons. This photo of the spillway only brings back a fraction of the our times shared, memories made, and love shared and lost! We are truly blessed!!!!! I love and miss you Mary!

I remember stopping to admire the Glass House when we would take a ride on the River. Absolutely Beautiful!

Added by Evelyn Meeks,
29 August 2002 at 0849

Christmas in Yankeetown always meant a trip down by Gene and Norma Knotts glass house at 1 Genie Court. They would take a large cedar tree, cut it in half, put one half in the house and mount the other half on the roof. It looked like it went right through the roof. If you were on their Christmas card list you got a picture of the decorated 2 story tree on a post card. Life then and now is great!!!

Added by Sally Price,
2 January 2003 at 0140

My wife and I are purchasing the "Glass House" at 1 Genie Court. I am very interested in the history of the home. I would love to find an old post card like this one to frame, or at least to scan. If anyone knows anything of the history of the "Glass House" we would love to hear it. Was there an architect, and if so, who? Were there any other customs regarding the home in addition to the Christmas tree through the roof? I would love to hear any stories that involve the home. We have fallen in love with Yankeetown, and any information you can provide us would really be appreciated. Thanks.

Added by John & Nancy Smith,

I spent many a happy hour in that house as a child. Gene and Norma were great friends my parents. Jane and Elton Jones of Ocala, Florida. Before I was born my dad was principal of the high school in Yankeetown. Then principal of Ocala High School. I used to go down for long weekends and weeks in the summer in the late 50's with Ruth Fohl the councilor at the Ocala High. She was great friends of my parents also. I loved playing in the piano shaped pool. Gene used to take me out fishing in the gulf in a big boat that he built himself We used to fish right off the platform that hung out over the river also. Norma used to bake bread almost every day and we all enjoyed eating it fresh out of the oven. I seem to remember the only rooms without glass walls were the bath rooms. Norma tried to teach me how to play the organ they had in the livingroom, but I had no musical talent. I remember their old house where their children grew up. My older sister and brother were friends of their children. I hope you love the house as much as I did. I always dreamed of having a home like that some day. Best wishes and happiness always, Kay
